Grouping

The same thing said twice within ten minutes is one card with a count. Every occurrence keeps its own payload; the card's detail lists them.

What groups

Two notifications from the same source with the same group key, while the card is still open. The group key is the payload's group if the sender set one, else the title with its case and spacing normalised. The window slides: it is 10 minutes from the last event, not from the first, so a burst of 200 in an hour stays one card.

When a card closes

A card closes when you read it. A later event with the same key opens a new card. Archiving closes it too.

Per source

The window is a rule on the source: 1, 10 or 60 minutes, or off. 10 minutes for a new source.

Priority

low and normal group. high and critical never group away: each one is its own card, and pins to the top of the inbox for 60 minutes. A watch's fired item never groups either.

On the phone

When an open card grows, the notification on the lock screen is replaced with the new count rather than joined by a second one. Silent and Badge notifications group in the inbox the same way without ever having shown a banner.
